Most importantly – even before reporting a claim – is to protect your property from further loss:

1. Take as many pictures of the damage as possible  – even a video would be helpful.

2. Protect your property from further damage – do whatever you have to – get an emergency repair crew out, call a plumber etc. – whatever you have to do to stop any further damage. The insurance company expects this of you (in fact, your insurance policy contract requires it) and as long as you have pictures of damage, the adjuster will be able to adjust the claim fairly.

3. Then, when you are able, report the claim so that an adjuster can be assigned and the process of getting you reimbursed for your loss will begin. . .

Once the insurance company is aware of the claim, they will assign an adjustor and will start the settlement process. They'll also let us know so we can monitor the process for you and make sure that the claim is being handled fairly.

There are several ways to get a claim started.
