Control Health Care Costs

Health care costs can be a significant portion of a company’s budget, so strategically targeting this expense can improve an employer’s bottom line. A wellness program can help employees with high-risk factors make the lifestyle changes to improve their quality of life and reduce their health care costs while also helping employees with fewer risk factors stay healthy.

REDUCE-WORKMANS-COMP

Reduce Workers’ Compensation and Disability Costs

Employees who make healthy changes and lower their health risk factors often have a reduced chance of a workplace injury, illness or disability. This, in turn, can save employers money, not just on insurance premiums and benefits paid out, but also on the costs of recruiting and training a new worker to replace an employee who is out of work for health reasons.

When implemented successfully, a workplace wellness program can reduce health care costs, increase employee productivity and reduce absenteeism.  While some wellness programs encourage participation, others are results-oriented, meaning employees are encouraged to meet certain health goals or metrics.

Client Testimonials

“Once again Teresa has come through!! I needed a COBRA form to send out to employees. I didn’t know we were supposed to be doing that, she got me the form immediately. As long as she has been working with our company I have always been able to count on her. I know that she will get me the answers I need or guide me in the right direction. Not only that, she always responds ASAP whether I call her and leave a message or send email I always get a quick response. I value and appreciate all her help and I just wanted to let you know that I think she is great!”

“…Had an absolutely fantastic visit today from your wellness team. Best one yet! Only 4 employees opted out of the screenings, and only 1 (and an owner) did not attend the Lunch and Learn presentation. They were wonderful, and I am hearing lots of buzz among the employees about implementing some of the suggestions they had for a healthier lifestyle. Enthusiasm is definitely up! Thanks for arranging it for us, I even have one of the guys (who seriously needs to see a dr per his results) calling to set up his appt by the end of the day today. This may seem like a small benefit to you, but I honestly think that in some cases it has been life-saving!”

“…Many thanks for your help over the years – the relationship with your firm has been a pleasure. I have directed companies for more then 40 years and experienced Prudential, Aetna, original HMOs and a myriad of others including working direct with Blue Cross in the early years. You and your company took away all the pain of those early days and we appreciate it.”

While the thought of implementing a Wellness Program can be daunting, there are a few steps that you and your team can take to lay the groundwork for a successful program.

Assemble a Workgroup
Your wellness workgroup is a committee responsible for developing and promoting the workplace wellness program. The workgroup should be large enough to represent your workforce and should include staff that represents various departments, such as marketing, union representatives, human resources etc.

Designate a Coordinator
Management of the workgroup should identify a wellness coordinator to oversee the program. Although members of the workgroup can share responsibilities, having one person in charge of coordinating efforts increases the likelihood the program is managed well.

Schedule Workgroup Meetings
The workgroup should meet regularly, at least on a quarterly basis. The frequency of meetings will depend on what the workgroup plans to accomplish.

Develop an Action Plan
Action plans should include specific goals and objectives, strategies to meet these goals, a timeline, a budget and an evaluation plan.

Implement and Communicate the Plan
You need an effective communications strategy to put your plan into motion and to encourage employee participation. In addition, be sure to educate employees so they understand why you are implementing a wellness program and what benefits they can gain from participating.

Evaluate Outcomes
Periodically review your program goals and compare outcomes to your goals and objectives. Keep employees involved in the evaluation process and adjust programs and initiatives based on employee feedback and evaluation results.
